I have a Dimension 8250 (3 years old) with a Lite-On LTN486S 48x Max CD-ROM (my drive D and a Samsung CD-RW/DVD SM-348B (my drive E. The CD burner (E works fine, but the CD-ROM (D doesn't. It 'studdders' for about 25-35 seconds at the beginning of each track it plays. By that I mean it plays at a faster rate than normal for the first 25-35 seconds and it makes crackling/popping noises. ![]() The best way I can describe it is as if it was studdering. At the start of each track you can hear the drive whir up to speed and the track begins playing faster than it should, along with the popping noise in the background. Once it settles down after the 30 seconds it plays fine, until the next track starts, and then it studders again. I've downloaded the latest drivers from Dell's download section but it didn't help.
